We are an Association of ex Servicemen who have specifically served in the Royal Lincolnshire Regt or the Royal Anglian Regt. (The successors of the Royal Lincolnshire Regt.) and the qualifications for being a member are that you should have served as a Regular Soldiers, a National Service Soldier or Territorial Army Soldier in any of the Battalions of the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment or the Royal Anglian Regiment.

We are part of a County Association and there are other Branches in Lincoln, Scunthorpe, Spalding, Stamford and there is even a Branch in the Midlands. There was a Branch in Grantham but unfortunately it had to close due to lack of numbers.

What do we do, well we have a monthly meeting and needless to say this is usually accompanied by a drink. We arrange events throughout the year or attend events arranged by other branches. A sample of these events are, over the last four years we have arranged trips to the Continent either to attend Memorial Gatherings/Services  to commemorate the ending of hostilities or specific Battles, or again just to visit the scene of Battle Sites of World War I & II. In addition to this we organize a Regimental Dinner once a year usually in April a Christmas Lunch in December. We attend the Royal Anglian Regimental Gathering at Duxford Imperial War Museum Site in Essex in the month of September, and our own Regimental Association Annual General Meeting and Gathering which was in July but this date may Change. We are planning other trips for the year 2006. So watch this space.

We are not all old old soldiers but it has to be admitted that there are a few of us around, and we do need a few more younger ex servicemen, otherwise were will the old soldiers come from in the future. And it’s an absolute necessity to have old soldiers, in fact its part of the establishment.

Why did we form this Association, basically to continue the friendships established during our service with the Regiment, and as a continuing link with the Regiment of today. We have in the past been invited back for weekends  to our various battalions, to meet the younger generation, and we anticipate this could happen again at some future date. The Grimsby Branch of the Association was formed soon after the end of World War II and has there fore been in existence for over 50 years.

So if you live locally, and fancy a night out once a month and a trip down Memory Lane. Come and meet us. We gather at the Royal British Legion Club in Grimsby on the 4th Tuesday of each Month and proceedings kick off at 1930 hrs (Zulu Time!)
